Linn County, Missouri was established January 6, 1837, with Linneus, MO being named the county seat. Linn County and Linneus, Missouri were named after Hon. Lewis F. Linn. It is located in the northern-central portion of Missouri and is surrounded by Sullivan County, Adair County, Macon County, Chariton County, Livingston County and Grundy County. While the majority of the area is a mixture of farmland and timberland, there are also numerous towns and communities spread across the county that are home to approximately 12,000 residents including several remarkable and well-known people such as Walt Disney, General John J. Pershing and Gene Bartow. Located within the county borders you will find Brookfield, Browning, Bucklin, Laclede, Linneus, Marceline, Meadville, Purdin, Bear Branch, Enterprise, Eversonville, Forker, Fountain Grove, Garner, Grantsville, Haseville, Hecla, Leverton, Lowell, New Boston, North Salem, St. Catharine, Sedgwick, Shafter and Shelby. Linn County, MO shares its namesake with Linn, Missouri and other counties named Linn in Kansas, Iowa and Oregon.
The Linn County Sheriff Office has deputies patrolling all 621 square miles of the county and works along with the Brookfield Police Department and the Marceline Police Department to ensure all citizens are provided with the best law enforcement services available.
